Public Service Worker/Street Department

The City of Wayzata is now accepting employment applications for the position of a Public Service Worker/Street Department.

Wayzata is a premier suburb located 11 miles west of downtown Minneapolis. With a population of 4,500 people, Wayzata is a tight-knit community which is known for its vibrant downtown and picturesque setting on Lake Minnetonka. A popular destination for visitors, Wayzata’s downtown is home to a number of specialty shops, boutiques, professional services, and restaurants. Wayzata’s business districts and residential neighborhoods provide a significant tax base for this unique small town community.

General Duties:

The Public Service Worker/Street Department position performs a variety of skilled and unskilled tasks associated with the maintenance of the city’s streets and street right-of-ways; operates a wide range of motorized and non-motorized equipment and tools; performs inspection and maintenance on tools and equipment that is assigned; assists other departments when assigned; and performs a variety of maintenance tasks associated with the day to day operations. Available for extended workdays and call backs.

Minimum Requirements:

Qualified candidates will have a high school diploma or GED equivalent, valid MN Driver’s license, possess (or be able to obtain with 6 months) a valid MN Class B commercial driver’s license with tanker and air brake endorsements.  Must meet all state and federal mandated requirements and local policies such as a CDL drug and alcohol testing and criminal background check. 

Desired Qualifications:

One year of municipal street maintenance experience, specifically in bituminous paving, patching and snowplowing.  Vocational/technical education in public works or street maintenance.
