Mill Street Parking Structure

Adolfson & Peterson (A&P) and their subcontractors continue work on the Mill Street Parking Structure project.  Veit and A&P have finalized soil corrections along the south edge of the proposed ramp and have started forming the footings.  In fact, the first section of footing was poured last Friday.  Concrete trucks will be making deliveries regularly as footing construction continues. Finally, Veit will begin importing soil to the site to create a level working area for the work on the proposed retaining wall.  This work requires the delivery of a significant amount of fill material.  There will be approximately 50 trucks/day entering and exiting the site at Broadway Avenue and Mill Street once fill deliveries begin.  The current loading zone on Broadway Avenue will be used to stage trucks.

For details on the parking mitigation during the project, go to www.wayzata.org/downtownparking.

Be a Hydrant Hero--Adopt A Hydrant!

In the event of a fire emergency during the winter, could firefighters find the hydrant near your home -- or does it get buried under a snow pile? By shoveling snow from your nearest hydrant, you help it remain visible and give firefighters faster access to the hydrant during an emergency, greatly decreasing response times. There is no need to notify the City about a hydrant you have a adopted because this is an informal, volunteer program. The Wayzata Fire Department, Police Department, City staff and elected officials thank you for helping to keep Wayzata safe!

PASSPORT EXPIRING OR TRAVELING IN THE NEAR FUTURE?

Passport applicants are encouraged to apply for or renew U.S. passports well ahead of planned travel, as longer-than-average wait times are anticipated for passport processing in 2017. One of the biggest things you can do to help prepare for the coming surge in 2017 is to spread the word to apply early.

NEED TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT FOR A PASSPORT?

Passports are taking  6 weeks to process and receive. Schedule your passport appointment now if you have future travel plans!

Please visit www.wayzata.org/passports to schedule your passport appointment online and get the full list of availability, hours and instructions.

Any questions or concerns, please contact the Motor Vehicle Department directly at 952-404-5320.

Police

Officers responded to 11 motor vehicle crashes and made two DWI arrests during the week.

A former Long Lake man was charged this week in Hennepin County District Court with two counts of 1st Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct.  The crimes occurred over a three year period between 2000 and 2003.  The victim in the case was between 10 and 13 years old at the time.

The department is processing many dog licenses.  All dogs over the age of six months are required to be licensed through the city.  Dog license application forms are online available at www.wayzata.org/doglicense. The fee is $20 per dog for a one year license or $30 per dog for a two year license.  A current rabies certificate must be presented at the time of submission.

Officers from the department say thank you to all who have wished us well this holiday season, either with kind words, an assortment of treats, or both.  A couple notable thank yous to the officers came this week in the form of donations to the Wayzata Crime Prevention Coalition.  One donation was for $200.  The second donation was for $5,000!

Public Works

Miscellaneous Public Works
Randy’s Environmental Services will be servicing our residential customers on Monday, December 26th and Monday, January 2nd.
Garbage stickers for extra garbage over your level of service are available at City Hall for $3.00 each. Each sticker buys the equivalent of a 30 gallon garbage can.
Randy’s will also collect holiday lights and electrical cords again this year. Simply put them in your recycling cart.

Wayzata Public Works will start the week of January 3 curb side pick-up of Christmas trees and spruce tops. Before placing your tree at the curb, please remove all nails, screws, wires, tree stands, tinsel, plastic bags, glass, and metal decorations. Wreaths are not accepted.
