Public Works

Met Council Sewer Project – Shoreline Drive

Metropolitan Council Environmental Services (MCES) and their contractor, S.M. Hentges, have begun their work on Shoreline Drive.  During this final phase of work, the contractor will be installing a new gravity sewer main, within the off-ramp from County Road 15 and Shoreline Drive, to replace a deteriorating sewer forcemain.  Shoreline Drive was closed completely in both directions between Ferndale Road and County Road 15 on April 17th. The marked detour will take eastbound motorists to Central Avenue, via Highway 12. A copy of the detour map can be found below.  Last week the contractor removed pavement and installed barrier adjacent to the Dakota Rail trail.  The trail will remain open for the duration of the project.  The contractor has begun installation of the new gravity sewer, beginning at Ferndale Road.  This work is anticipated to be completed by July 3, 2017.  For more information on the project and to sign up to receive project updates, visit the project website at www.metrocouncil.org/sewerconstruction/wayzata.

County Road 112 Reconstruction – Long Lake

Hennepin County, along with their contractor, Eureka Construction, has begun work on the reconstruction of County Road 112 (Old Highway 12) through Long Lake.  This project will be completed in three (3) phases, as follows:
  • Phase 1 from Willow Drive to Wolf Pointe Trail – construction to begin in April 2017
  • Phase 2 from Wolf Pointe Trail to Wayzata Blvd/TH 12 – construction to begin in 2018
  • Phase 3 from County Road 6 to Willow Drive – construction to begin in 2019
Additionally, for more information on the project and to sign up to receive project updates, visit the project website at http://www.hennepin.us/residents/transportation/wayzata-blvd/.

Bushaway Road Landscaping

The City’s contractor, Hoffman & McNamara continues planting along the Bushaway Road corridor.  The project involves the re-landscaping of the Bushaway Road corridor, from Wayzata Blvd to Grays Bay, following the reconstruction of the roadway by Hennepin County.  A very successful, volunteer planting event was held on Saturday, April 22nd (Earth Day), with over 300 volunteers participating.  Thank you to everyone that participated!  The overall project should be completed by mid-July.

Mill Street Parking Structure

Adolfson & Peterson (A&P) continues to make good progress on the Mill Street Parking Structure project.      The final deck pour was completed on April 24th.  During late April and early May, the contractor will be installing the storm water retention system and installing the precast wall panels around the perimeter of the structure.  These activities will restrict parking and access along Mill Street, during this work. This work will be adjusted as weather permits.  Below is a tentative schedule of activities and anticipated areas of impact.
  • April 27-May 1        Storm Sewer installation       East half of Mill Street closed
  • May 3-7                  Precast Panel installation     East third of Mill Street closed
  • May 8-11                Precast Panel installation     Middle third of Mill Street closed
  • May 12-17              Precast Panel installation     West third of Mill Street closed
The upper level of parking is anticipated to be available for use in mid-to-late June.

2017 Sidewalk Inspections

The Street Department will be starting inspections of the City’s sidewalks.  If residents have specific areas of concern, please contact Public Works Superintendent, Jim Eibensteiner at 952-404-5368.

2017 Street Improvement project

City staff has prepared plans and will be opening bid on May 4th for the rehabilitation and reconstruction of several streets within Wayzata.  Currently, plans include the reconstruction of Glenbrook Road, with new concrete curb and gutter, and the resurfacing of Hillside Drive and Huntington Avenue (next to the Edina Realty building).  Work is anticipated to begin after the 4th of July.

Hennepin County Pedestrian Ramp replacement

This month, Hennepin County will replace and upgrade the pedestrian ramps at the intersection of Central Avenue and Wayzata Boulevard.  This project is part of the county’s ADA Sidewalk Accessibility Plan (www.hennepin.us/adaplan).  This work is expected to begin toward the end of the week of April 24 and last approximately one week, weather permitting.  There may be occasional lane closures on both roads and pedestrian access at the intersection may be limited during the work.  However, the city and county are working diligently to keep access open as much as possible and complete the work as quickly as possible.  For additional information, please see www.hennepin.us/roadmaintenance or contact Zach Rothstein at (612) 919-9759.

2017 Sanitary Sewer Lining

The City of Wayzata has contracted with Lametti and Sons, Inc. to perform maintenance on the several sewer mains throughout the City. The maintenance includes the lining of the existing sewer main with a Cured-In-Place Pipe (CIPP) liner.  Sewer relining is a quick and economical process in lieu of replacing pipes by open excavation. This process prevents major traffic disruptions and health hazards from potential exposure to raw sewage.  The 2017 project proposes to line approximately 5,150 feet of sewer main in the following areas:  Central Avenue South, Circle Drive East, Glenbrook Road, Grand Avenue, Huntington Ave South, and Shady Lane.

Hydrant Flushing has been completed

The Wayzata Utility Department began flushing water mains and fire hydrants from Sunday evening, April 16 through Thursday, April 27, weather permitting.  The purpose of this process is to remove any particulate matter that may have built up in the water mains over the year and also to ensure that all fire hydrants on the water system are operating properly in the event of a fire.  As this flushing process may cause the water to become slightly discolored, residents are advised to be observant while washing clothes until after the flushing has been completed.  If discolored water is present, run the cold water faucets only until the water clears. For additional information, contact Wayzata Public Works at 952-404-5363.

2017 Pond Maintenance Project – Glenbrook Ponding Area

The project proposes to remove accumulated sediment from the storm water basins, known locally as the Glenbrook Ponds.  The ponds were originally constructed in 1993-94 by the City of Wayzata and the Minnehaha Creek Watershed District (MCWD) and are located between Wayzata Blvd and Highway 12. Because of the warmer temperatures and the early onset of seasonal road restrictions, the contractor has not yet started this work.  Staff is awaiting an updated schedule.

Crosby Road Reconstruction in Minnetonka

The City of Minnetonka is reconstructing Crosby Road, from McGinty Road to just north of Ringer Road. This project will replace the deteriorating and aging watermain system and complete necessary sanitary sewer, storm sewer and roadway improvements. The City of Minnetonka is also adding a new trail along the east side of Crosby Road. Construction is expected to begin the week of April 24 and will continue through the summer. For more information and updates, visit the City of Minnetonka’s website at https://eminnetonka.com/current-projects/street-projects/1606-2017-street-rehabilitation-crosbyrd.
