Night to Unite Block Party Sign Up Due July 21

Each year on the first Tuesday night in August, the City of Wayzata hosts “Night to Unite,” a summer evening dedicated to celebrating and strengthening the commitment to a safe community. For Wayzata residents, this is an opportunity to put together a neighborhood celebration, gather with neighbors and friends and get to know one another, play some games with the kids, enjoy a few hot-off-the-grill favorites, and encourage crime prevention.

Neighborhoods are asked to register their block party so representatives from the Police and Fire Departments, as well as elected officials, city staff, and McGruff the Crime Fighting Dog can stop by to visit the parties that evening from 5:15 to 8:30 p.m. for community building. If you are hosting a block party, go to and fill out the registration form by July 21.

Department Updates:

Planning and Building

The Planning Commission meeting on Monday, July 17th includes review of the following development applications:

  • Buell Consulting, on behalf of T-Mobile Central, LLC, has submitted a development application to construct a telecommunication facility for cellular antennas and associated equipment on the building located at 800 Wayzata Blvd E.
  • The applicant, Holiday Stationstores, is proposing to add a dynamic/digital wall sign at the Holiday gas station located at 1325 Wayzata Blvd E.
  • Meyer Place at Ferndale is requesting an amendment to the existing Planned Unit Development (PUD) at 105 Lake St E. The proposed PUD amendment is to allow for an additional dwelling unit in the residential condominium building. There would be no changes to the footprint, size, or design of the building.

The department continues to receive complaints from motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians, all about each other.  Bicyclists are reminded that when they are operating on the roadway, they must follow all traffic regulations.  Citations and warnings were issued to several bikers for traffic violations in the past few weeks.
Through the first half of 2017, the department has made 26 DWI arrests. That number is up over the same time period in 2016 where 16 DWI arrests were made.
Preparations are underway for Night to Unite, scheduled for Tuesday, August 1. The Night to Unite Luncheon takes place at 11:30 a.m. at the Wayzata Country Club and is open to the public. Tickets can be purchased through the Wayzata Chamber. Neighborhood and block party visits will begin at 5:30 p.m., with approximately 26 stops for the four entourages in Wayzata and Long Lake.

County Road 15 Mill and Overlay - Wayzata to Orono

Hennepin County, along with their contractor, Bituminous Roadways, has begun a project to mill and overlay County Road 15 from just east of Hillside Drive to the Arcola Bridge.  This work began on July 11, with curb and drainage repairs.  Next week, they will begin milling and re-paving.  The work is proposed to be done from west to east, beginning at the Arcola Bridge.  This work is proposed to be done under traffic and is anticipated to be completed in one week, weather permitting.  Motorists should expect delays when travelling through this area.

2017 Pond Maintenance Project – Glenbrook Ponding Area

The project proposes to remove accumulated sediment from the storm water basins, known locally as the Glenbrook Ponds.  The ponds were originally constructed in 1993-94 by the City of Wayzata and the Minnehaha Creek Watershed District (MCWD) and are located between Wayzata Blvd and Highway 12. Because of the warmer temperatures and the early onset of seasonal road restrictions, the contractor has not yet started this work.  Staff is awaiting an updated schedule.
