The 43rd Annual James J. Hill Days celebration begins tonight!  The 2017 James J. Hill Days train will be rolling into Wayzata with exciting events and activities for the whole family on September 8, 9 and 10!

The Wayzata community has been coming together on Lake Street for 42 years to enjoy and connect with each other, and this year will be no different... plus there are a couple new activities!

James J. Hill Days is Wayzata’s largest festival inviting families to celebrate the end of summer along the shores of Lake Minnetonka. Recognized with Lake Minnetonka Magazine’s “Best Of” Award, James J. Hill Days has become the best family-oriented community fun-fest in Minnesota featuring national bands, a carnival, coaster carts, the ever-popular Dachshund Races, a street dance, fireworks, a classic car show, parade, and more! Be sure to check out all the new events this year including the Dakota Rail Classic and the MN Disc Dog Competition.

So walk on down or enjoy the new parking opportunities available - see you on the street! Full details can be found at or the James J. Hill Days Facebook page.

Think Tank Nominations Needed!

The City of Wayzata, with support from Future iQ, is undertaking a community visioning process, which is the community voice of Wayzata’s Comprehensive Plan. The City is inviting nominations for the Think Tank Workshop that will be held across two evenings on September 25 and 26.

Think Tank participants will contribute to:

  • An exercise to determine how “future ready” and successful Wayzata is now, in line with national and international comparisons
  • A review of important global, national and local trends relevant to Wayzata
  • Identification and clustering of the key “drivers” shaping the future of Wayzata
  • Formation of four plausible scenarios for the future for Wayzata
  • Identification of the preferred future and potential action steps to realize this future

Ideal candidates will be forward thinking and positive, have a willingness to share Wayzata knowledge and experience, be committed to attending and actively participating through the duration of the Think Tank.

Are you interested or know someone who would be a good fit? Go to  and click on “Think Tank Nomination.” Nominations close on September 15!
