The City of Wayzata’s Motor Vehicle Department is a deputy registrar office that handles registration and licensing of motor vehicles, boats, snowmobiles, and ATVs. The department issues fishing and hunting licenses and offers passport application processing by appointment only. Passport photos do not need an appointment.
*Please note there is a new insurance requirement--effective January 1, 2016 insurance information must be provided at the time of registration renewal, title transfer, or application for new Minnesota title/registration per Minnesota Statute Chapter 169.798, Subd. 4.
Wayzata Motor Vehicle does not accept applications for new Enhanced Drivers License’s or new REAL ID. For additional locations in metro area for drivers license info call 651-296-6911 or visit MN Drive Info.

Drop Box Registration/Tab Renewals
Effective 4/6/2020, Wayzata is offering drop off services for registration and tab renewals. Registrations and tab renewals may be dropped off or mailed in at any time and will be mailed back starting Monday, April 13.
For tab renewals, If you have your renewal notice from the state please submit the following in an envelope and drop in the gray Payment Drop Box directly across from the Motor Vehicle Department’s front door (pictured right):
- Renewal Notice/Prebill (Must include insurance info)
- Check payable to City of Wayzata (include phone number)
- If you are leaving cash, you must use exact amount
- Confirm mailing address is correct

The Wayzata Motor Vehicle Department accepts cash, check and credit / debit cards (Visa, MasterCard and Discover). A 2.49% convenience fee will be added to your transaction when using a credit or debit card. Passport application processing must be paid by check only.
