Police Officer

The City of Wayzata is now accepting employment applications for the position of a full-time Police Officer and accepting applications to establish an ongoing eligibility list for additional hiring processes anticipated in 2021.

General Duties

The Police Officer position is a full-time position that participates in law enforcement efforts that include police patrol duties, crime prevention, investigations, emergency response and public assistance.  To protect and promote public safety throughout the city through enforcement of all federal, state, and local laws; the preservation of public peace; the protection of life and property; the prevention of crime; and the detection and apprehension of violators of the law.  Assist in the judicial process by reporting the facts of investigations to the prosecuting attorneys and by testifying in court. The Police Officer works under the direction of the Police Sergeant and under the general direction of the Police Chief.


Minimum Requirements:

  • Eligible under the rules and regulations of the Minnesota Board of Peach Officers Standards and Trainings (P.O.S.T.) by June 16, 2021
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record at the time of appointment
  • Must meet all state-mandated requirements and local policies such as a physical examination, psychological exam and criminal background check.



The 2021 salary range is $28.57 to $40.12 per hour, depending on qualifications along with excellent benefits. For complete information on the position, please see the job description below.
