City of Wayzata Elections

The November election is quickly approaching and there are two, four-year city council seats and a mayoral seat that are expiring. Individuals who want to run for a seat on city council or for the mayoral seat may file an Affidavit of Candidacy with the required $5 filing fee (or petition) at Wayzata City Hall, during regular office hours, between July 28 and August 11, 2020. For more information, contact the City Clerk at 952-404-5303 or visit www.wayzata.org/elections.

Picture Wayzata Photo Contest is Underway

Grab your camera, the Picture Wayzata Photo Contest is underway. The photo contest is a great way to showcase the multiple angles of Wayzata and to recognize the creative photography talent in the community.

Whether it’s people at play, a treasured park or a new perspective on what Wayzata has to offer, we want to see it. Spring, summer, winter and fall, we want it all. Everyone is encouraged to participate.

Participants can begin submitting entries on July 15. This year the contest will run until Dec. 19, 2020, so you can capture winter in Wayzata. Winners will be notified in Jan. 2021. This year, there will be two age categories: adults, over age 18, and youth, age 17 and under! Judges will be looking for new, fresh photographs depicting what Wayzata looks like.

First, second and third place winners will be selected in each category, in each age group. This is just a snapshot of what you need to know about the photo contest. More information can be viewed at www.wayzata.org.

Construction Projects

Panoway on Wayzata Bay (Phase 1) – Lake Street (Broadway Ave to Ferndale Rd)

Over the last week, the Lake Street construction contractor made significant progress on the new restroom building and began preparing landscape beds and installing street lights. Construction of the new Plaza Park features continues.

Lake Street between Ferndale Rd and Barry Ave was paved on Thursday, July 9. The contractor plans to reopen this segment to two-way traffic on Friday, July 10.

Westbound Lake Street is open to motorists between Broadway and Walker avenues. Eastbound Lake Street remains closed to allow contractors access to the Plaza Park.

Lake Street between Walker and Barry avenues will remained closed through the end of July. Businesses on Lake Street are accessible to pedestrians and there is ample parking available on adjacent side streets and at the Mill Street Parking Ramp.

Paving operations on Lake Street

Please Use the Sidewalks on Lake Street

When visiting Downtown Wayzata, please use sidewalks where they are available. The streets are for construction crews and large equipment and pose a safety threat to pedestrians. There are many safety hazards that exist on the Wayzata Panoway construction site, which is why the site has been fenced, and the public is not permitted to enter the site.

Near the construction designated detour routes are posted for motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians around the construction zone. Walking or biking on the railroad corridor is also prohibited and is considered trespassing. Please use the designated detour routes instead. For more detailed information about the detour routes, including maps, visit NavigateWayzata.com.

Sealcoating Ends, Sweeping Begins, Striping Follows

Despite the spotty showers this week, crews were able to sealcoat streets and parking lots. The City appreciates everyone’s patience and cooperation. City crews will begin sweeping excess sealcoat rock Mon., July 13. Street and parking lot striping will follow soon after.
