Community DevelopmentRecovery for Lake Street BusinessesThe City’s Lake Street Business District was selected as a recovery zone for assistance from Hennepin County. The City and Forecast Public Art have reviewed the results of a survey (over 100 responses received) and decided on strategies that make people feel comfortable and safe visiting the Lake Street area in fall and winter. It will include the installation of “warming huts”, outdoor heaters, creative lighting, and additional public seating. This work is being done in time for Small Business Saturday on November 28. The City is working closely with the Wayzata Area Chamber of Commerce. It is funded by the Federal CARES Act. A presentation will be given by Forecast Public Art at the Public Forum of the City Council meeting on Tuesday, October 20.

Lake Street (Broadway Ave to Ferndale Road)Construction continues at the Ferndale Road and Grove Lane / Barry Avenue railroad crossings. Work began in these areas on October 7th and is expected to be completed by the end of the month. Crews are reconstructing the street, trail, sidewalk, and storm sewer facilities in these locations. The roads will remain open to motorists. Flagging will be utilized as needed while the work is being done. Thank you for your continued patience during this complex street reconstruction project. Maintenance Activities
The City’s Street Department is working on the maintenance of several stormwater drainage areas and is installing drain tile at the low end of Margaret Circle Park. They have also been doing general fall cleanup and preparing the City’s gardens for winter. Electric Car Charging Stations
Beginning September 15, 2020 the electric car charging stations will no longer be free to use. There will be a $1.00 per hour fee for charging. This fee for use is necessary to help offset the cost of electricity that the City provides for this service.
