Help Discharge Racially Restrictive Covenants

Discriminatory covenants are no longer enforceable, but discharging them matters. Did you know discriminatory covenants were used to keep people of color from buying houses in certain Minnesota neighborhoods, including some of our own? The result is a century of segregated communities. Together, we can acknowledge this discrimination, discharge these covenants and build a foundation for more inclusive communities.

Even after these covenants were illegal, for a long time there was no way to remove the language from property titles. Minnesota law now allows property owners to renounce discriminatory language from property titles.

Your property may have a racially restrictive covenant without you knowing.

Public Works Update

LaSalle Pond Maintenance Delayed

Nadeau Companies, LLC will perform pond maintenance (dredging) on the LaSalle Pond, south of LaSalle Street, between Reno and Lacher Streets.

The project includes excavating accumulated sediment from within the pond and making improvements at the pond’s inlet and outlet pipes. These improvements will help improve the stormwater quality and reduce the amount of pollutants that are discharged downstream. Pond dredging typically occurs every 15-25 years and this pond was originally constructed in 1990 and is in need maintenance.

Work was planned to begin earlier this week and has been slightly delayed and will begin Monday February 7th. This project will take 7-8 business days to complete.
