Memorial Day - We Honor & Remember With Memorial Day coming up, we remember and honor veterans who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our Country while serving.
This weekend, the Wayzata Legion will have a few events happening. - There will be 2 brief services presented by the Honor Guard:
- 9:15 a.m. at Wayzata's Greenlawn Cemetery
- 9:45 a.m. at Old Wayzata Cemetery (Wayzata Blvd & Walker Ave)
- There will be 2 services featuring guest speaker, MSgt Kristin White, Airforce, Ret (See attached):
- 10:30 a.m. at Summit Hill Cemetery
- 11:30 a.m. (approx.) at Heritage Park
- A free will offering light lunch will be served at the Wayzata American Legion after the last service. Everyone is invited!

Thank You to Our VolunteersEvery year, local groups and residents volunteer their time and energy to help plant City gardens and make the town look beautiful. Wayzata Beach Playground is Almost Finished!The City’s contractor will return on Tuesday, May 31 to install the final touches for the new playground at the Wayzata Beach. These items include a new water feature, new sand and a poured-in-place walkway around the equipment.
The playground is anticipated to be open for use the week of June 20. We appreciate the public’s patience as we finalize this work!

The Library has ReopenedThe library has been under construction for the last few weeks, and has now reopened to the public! The City Hall parking lot has also fully reopened following the completion of the construction.

The City of Wayzata’s permits have been paper-based for many years. This week, the City launched an online permitting system that enables homeowners, contractors, and others to fill out and pay for permits online! While not all permits are digital yet, staff will continue to roll out the system over the next few months, which will include more permits moving to an online option.

Platform Tennis Community Meeting Join us in person for a community meeting on Tuesday, June 15 from 5:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. at Wayzata City Hall (600 Rice St E) to discuss the proposed platform tennis project. At this time, the Parks and Trails Board is proposing to construct two platform tennis courts at the Wayzata West Middle School site (149 Barry Ave N) along with potential future amenities as shown on the left.

Wayzata Art ExperienceKick off the summer with the lakeside festival, Wayzata Art Experience, June 25 and 26.Taking place in downtown Wayzata on the shores of Lake Minnetonka, this two day event, hosted by the Wayzata Area Chamber of Commerce, will feature 100 juried artists, food trucks, free sailboat rides, floating art, and live music.

Section Foreman House UpdateStakeholders for the Section Foreman House restoration and reuse, including the City and resident Design Committee, are currently working with architecture firm Cushing Terrell to envision the future of the house as a lakefront learning center. Schematic design is complete. The schematic design and Site Alteration Permit were approved by City Council on May 17 and design development has begun.

City Zoning Code UpdatesParks Rezoning Public Hearing Currently, all of Wayzata’s park properties and city-owned open space are zoned for residential use, commercial use, or Planned Unit Development. To protect and preserve these properties from any future development, Wayzata is proposing to rezone all of the properties to Parks and Open Space. The second reading of the proposed ordinance will take place at the June 7 Council meeting. Zoning Code Updates City staff is proposing changes to the residential and commercial zoning districts within the City Code. The changes are intended to align the zoning code with the Comprehensive Plan and include new accessory dwelling unit regulations. Public comments are encouraged and can be sent to publiccomment@wayzata.org before the June 7 meeting of the City Council.

Proposals Under Review712 Lake St – Parking Variance and Conditional Use Permits for Restaurant A development application has been submitted for parking-related approvals at 712 Lake St, the former Fitspace building. Applicant 714 E Lake St, LLC is proposing to retrofit the building to house a restaurant called “Paco & Lime”.
The Planning Commission recommended approval of the application on May 16. Pre-Submittal
Development Proposal for 900 Wayzata Blvd (Wells Fargo) A development application is in progress for redevelopment at 900 Wayzata Blvd, currently home to a Wells Fargo bank. The applicant is proposing a residential building, office building, and downsized bank with drive-through. This will require review by the Planning Commission and City Council.
More input will be sought from residents before future consideration by the Planning Commission and City Council.

Tree Removal is CompleteThe City's tree contractor has completed the removal of EAB infested trees on public property for the season. Staff will continue to inventory city trees for the next phase of removal work, which will likely begin over the winter.
Stay tuned for more information regarding residential trees later this summer.

Bituminous Seal-Coating Begins Next WeekSelect streets within the City of Wayzata will receive bituminous seal coat application during the summer of 2022. Crack sealing is scheduled to began this week with seal-coat application to follow in June. Streets scheduled to receive the seal-coat application include: Babcock Lane, Birch Lane, Crosby Road, Edgewood Avenue S, Elm Lane, Far Hill Court, Far Hill Road, Ferndale Road, Gleahaven Road, Hill Road, Holdridge Circle, Holdridge Lane
