Commission, Authority and Board Vacancies
The Wayzata City Council annually appoints individuals to volunteer service positions on advisory commission, authority and boards through an open appointments process. Each commission, authority or board deals with a variety of issues and topics of concern to the city.
The appointment process promotes citizen involvement through volunteer service. The process allows City Council Members an opportunity to tap into and select from a pool of talent, diversity, knowledge and skills of its citizens to benefit city government. The process offers all interested citizens an opportunity to be considered for appointments based on their expertise. Openings on commission, authority and boards are staggered and vary on term length.
We encourage you to research the various advisory boards and their meeting schedules to determine what time commitment is involved for board members. Typically, advisory boards meet bi-weekly, monthly, quarterly, or annually, and the meetings are open to the public. Attending one of the meetings may assist you in learning more about an advisory board’s function. You may view the online calendar for meeting dates or call City Hall, at 952-404-5303, to obtain meeting information. Details on regularity of meetings are detailed on the application form.

The City of Wayzata will be accepting applications in October for open positions and reappointments on the following Commissions, Authority and Boards with terms starting January 1, 2026:

The above positions are open for appointment on the various advisory commission, authority, and boards.
The City Clerk administers the process of announcing vacancies to the public, accepting applications, and scheduling interviews with the City Council. As vacancies occur, information will be posted on the website starting in September of each year, and the online application process will open for interested and eligible citizens until the published deadline. Interviews are conducted by the Wayzata City Council in December with appointments made thereafter so vacancies can be filled starting January 1.
The public is informed of and members are appointed to openings on various advisory commission, authority, and boards. The City Clerk administers the process of announcing vacancies to the public, accepts applications, refers applications to the city council and notifies appointees.
As vacancies occur, information will be posted on the website starting in September of each year, and the online application process will open for interested and eligible citizens until the published deadline. Interviews are conducted by the Wayzata City Council in November or December with appointments made thereafter so vacancies can be filled starting January 1.
Each applicant is interviewed by the Wayzata City Council. Interviews are generally held during at a workshop meeting time (between 4:30-7p.m.) scheduled before the regular City Council meeting in the Community Room at City Hall. Each applicant will be interviewed by the City Council Members on why they seek the appointment. Interview dates are TBD after the application period closes.
Wayzata residents who meet the requirements of the positions for which they are applying are eligible. Non-Residents may be eligible for some positions. See details on application form for further eligibility.
Positions are volunteer and have no compensation.
Applicants must apply for re-appointment. Members may be re-appointed unless prohibited by law. The reappointment process is the same as for new appointments.
Appointed members are to follow the city policies and open meeting laws when serving on a commission, authority or board. Meetings of Boards & Commissions must be held in public, with a few exceptions.
